Fast passages and excellent results in the ARC 2011
Discovery 67 Sapphire II arriving in St Lucia after a fast 15 day crossing
‘Fun, fun, fun!’ was how owner John O’Connor described his ARC 2011 Atlantic crossing in his brand new Discovery 67, Sapphire II. The good winds ensured fast passage times and impressive daily runs for all four Discovery’s that took part in this
year’s Atlantic Rally Cruise from Las Palmas to St Lucia.
Participating in the ‘Cruising class B’, all three Discovery 55’s recorded excellent results with Brizo coming 2nd in class and Tioram II and Casamara not far behind in 4th and 5th.
From the carnival atmosphere at the start to the challenges and routines of ocean passage making, and not forgetting the gastronomique delights along the way, several of the Discovery’s kept excellent blog’s of their daily experiences.
Stuart Smith from Discovery 55 Brizo sent us his thoughts on the last day of sailing, “The most unexpected part of the ARC for Pat and myself is that we have discovered ‘ocean sailing’, actually really enjoying living at sea as opposed to moving between anchorages and marinas. This has had a great deal to do with the Discovery 55, which was specifically designed with easy ocean passage making in mind.”
John O’Connor in Discovery 67 Sapphire II noted that “Fast downwind sailing in a well found, spacious, sea-kindly boat like the 67 is fun, fun, fun! I believe we had six 200+ mile days. Sapphire was quite the sight with 3 white sails out, flying along at 11 knots.!”
The Discovery Yachts After Care Team were on hand at both the start and finish of this year’s ARC to support the owners, assist with last minute preparations and welcome them into St Lucia.
